Dean Gillispie of Fairborn won a $45 million civil lawsuit against former Miami Township police detective, Scott Moore, for actions that lead to Gillispie's wrongful imprisonment. Gillispie was freed after 20 years of imprisonment thanks to efforts of the Ohio Innocence Project at the University of Cincinnati. The Columbus Dispatch and other Ohio media covered Gillispie's civil lawsuit.

He spent 15 years behind bars because of a wrongful conviction. Pierce Reed, director of policy and engagement for the Ohio Innocence Project at UC Law, says that Sutton’s journey, while incredibly unfair, is far from unique.

Michael Sutton, 35, and Kenny Phillips, 34 are finally getting their lives back. After 15 years of wrongful imprisonment Sutton has his freedom back thanks to the Ohio Innocence Project at UC Law. Phillips was also released with the help of the Wrongful Conviction Project at the Ohio Public Defender Commission. Sutton and Phillips, now have sometihng else: full rides to college. ABC News and News 5 Cleveland shared their story.
