UC research examines barriers to treatment of COVID-19 in local Latinx families

New research from the University of Cincinnati,examines the barriers as well as those that are helpful in the prevention and treatment of COVID-19 in Latinx families in Cincinnati. Researchers identified primary barriers that include insecurities in food, jobs and housing and immigration. Key facilitators included having trusted messengers of health-related information.

UC research examines COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy

One of the major roadblocks in the fight against the spread of COVID-19 in the early days of the pandemic was people refusing to get vaccinated against the virus. New research at UC examines that vaccine hesitancy and provides key insights into the behaviors and perceptions of the U.S. population during a critical time of the COVID-19 pandemic, just as vaccines were becoming more available.

UC faculty, grads win prestigious international research prize

August 30, 2022

A University of Cincinnati engineering professor and five of his students will receive a prestigious international award for their work studying ways to address water pollution. The Prince Sultan Bin Abdulaziz International Prize for Water will be awarded to UC College of Engineering and Applied Science distinguished research professor Dionysios Dionysiou and his student research team.

Venture Lab, Center for Entrepreneurship merge to boost innovation

The UC Venture Lab and the UC Center for Entrepreneurship will merge into a single unit. The newly integrated team will be led by Kate Harmon, executive director of the Center for Entrepreneurship and the El and Elaine Bourgraf Director of Entrepreneurship.

UC study: dietary education leads to healthier lives

December 13, 2022

Initial data from a University of Cincinnati clinical research study aimed at increasing diet quality and decreasing cardiovascular risk shows positive results. The study, called Supermarket and Web-Based Intervention Targeting Nutrition (SuperWIN), was a randomized, controlled trial that promotes a heart-healthy diet through nutrition counseling provided by a supermarket-based, registered dietitian within one of each participant’s home grocery stores.

UC hopes frogs inspire students to leap into STEM

A University of Cincinnati biologist is working with teachers at two Cincinnati public schools to help them explain evolution using frogs that biologist Lucinda Lawson studies in Africa. Lawson works with Hyperolius frogs, a genus of 150 to 200 colorful species, including one she and her research partners discovered in 2019 that was new to science.
