In Memoriam: CCM Assistant Dean Emeritus Paul Hillner

The University of Cincinnati is saddened to share news of the passing of CCM Assistant Dean Emeritus Paul Hillner. A pillar of the CCM community for more than 40 years, Hillner passed away on July 20, 2022, at the age of 70.

Nashville Symphony Orchestra Principal Oboist Titus Underwood joins CCM’s faculty

UC College-Conservatory of Music Dean Stanley E. Romanstein has announced the addition of accomplished oboist Titus Underwood to the college’s roster of distinguished performing and media arts faculty members. Principal Oboe of the Nashville Symphony Orchestra, Underwood is an Emmy Award-winner and a 2021 recipient of the Sphinx Medal of Excellence Award. His new appointment as Associate Professor of Oboe at CCM begins on Aug. 15, 2021.

CCM announces Michael Mergen as new associate professor of trumpet

UC College-Conservatory of Music Dean Stanley E. Romanstein has announced the addition of acclaimed trumpeter/cornetist Michael Mergen to the college’s roster of distinguished performance faculty members. Mergen’s appointment as Associate Professor of Trumpet begins on Aug. 15, 2020.

CCM student wins first place in American Prize

Alumna Anita Graef named Taft Museum Duncanson Artist-in-Residence

Cincinnati’s Taft Museum has named Anita Graef (MM Cello ’19) the 2023 Duncanson Artist-in-Residence. The residency is designed to center the work of black artists from a variety of disciplines, and includes performances and educational events around the Cincinnati area. Graef, who was a CSO/CCM Diversity Fellow, will perform April 16, 21 and 29 as part of her Duncanson Residency.

Four CCM alumni nominated in 2024 Tony Awards

Four UC College-Conservatory of Music alumni are named nominees in the 77th annual Tony Awards, recognizing the excellent work shared in Broadway productions during the 2023-24 season. The nominees, announced Tuesday, April 30, include Isabella Byrd (BFA Lighting Design and Technology, ’09), Shoshana Bean (BFA Musical Theatre, '99), Dorian Harewood and Leslie Kritzer (BFA Musical Theatre, '99).

Cincinnati Opera and CCM announce details of next Opera Fusion: New Works workshops

Cincinnati Opera and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) are pleased to announce the next events in their joint program, Opera Fusion: New Works. The two new operas—Robeson by Scott Davenport Richards and David Cote and The Righteous by Gregory Spears and Tracy K. Smith—will receive workshops this April and May, and the public is invited to attend a sneak peek.

CCM faculty featured in roundup of new classical music albums

CCM is home to an international faculty of dedicated educators who are also celebrated professionals in their own right, and two of those faculty members were recently highlighted in a New York Times roundup of notable new classical music albums. Entitled "5 Classical Music Albums You Can Listen to Right Now," the article includes recently released performance recordings featuring CCM Associate Professor of Voice Elliot Madore and CCM Assistant Professor of Cello Sæunn Thorsteinsdóttir.
