The CCM Philharmonia reunites on the stage of Corbett Auditorium to present a socially-distanced virtual performance. Led by Director of Orchestral Studies Mark Gibson, the concert also features a performance by mezzo-soprano and CCM Professor Quinn Patrick Ankrum, DMA. Watch the performance video today. On May 22, 2011, the CCM Jazz Ensemble was joined by Grammy Award-nominee, National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master and Kennedy Center “Living Legend of Jazz” Gerald Wilson (1918-2014) for an unforgettable evening of big band music. The concert also featured the talents of Mary Ellen Tanner (1946-2014), a renowned jazz vocalist who taught at CCM for many years.

In light of the pandemic, Junbo Zhou, a UC College-Conservatory of Music doctoral student in choral conducting, founded an organization to unite musicians from diverse backgrounds in creating universally-appealing art. With this in mind, World’s Harmony was born.

UC College-Conservatory of Music graduate student Leo De La Cruz won the CCM Wind Studies concerto competition and he achieved an honorable mention at the 2020 Yamaha Young Performing Artists Competition. Most recently, he won the National Federation of Music Clubs’ Carolyn Nelson Double Reed Award, which includes a $1,250 cash prize.

UC College-Conservatory of Music AD flute student Chaz Salazar is the 2020 Orchestral Futurist Fellow at the National Orchestral Institute + Festival (NOI+F). Offered by the NOI+F in partnership with the Sphinx Organization, the Fellowship aims to further advance the power of diversity in the arts.

Recent UC College-Conservatory of Music alumnus Declan Hayden (BM Percussion Performance, ‘20; BM Music Education, ‘20) won a position this summer with the touring production of percussion and theatre troupe STOMP. The ensemble has twelve members, with eight of those members performing on any given night. Hayden’s character is called “Potato Head,” whom STOMP describes as “the rock steady rhythmic center of the show.”

University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music flute student Katie Riley set a goal to memorize Berbiguer's 18 Etudes for flute during the pandemic. A fourth year undergraduate student, Riley is completing her final year at CCM from her home in the Hoosier National Forest in southern Indiana. She studies with CCM Professor Demarre McGill.
