Four new faculty members join the University of Cincinnati College of Engineering and Applied Science. The faculty have expertise in a variety of areas including traffic safety, connected vehicles, software, networked systems, additive manufacturing and high-temperature alloys.

The University of Cincinnati’s College of Engineering and Applied Science welcomed seven new faculty members starting in August 2023 at the start of the 2023-24 fall semester. There were an additional six faculty members that joined CEAS at the start of the 2022-23 spring semester in January 2023.

After earning her bachelor's degree in civil engineering at a premier university in Nigeria, Tolulope Odunola became fascinated by the world of hydrology and water systems and set off to continue her education in environmental engineering. She came to the University of Cincinnati for her master's degree, and the experience left such an impact she stayed for her PhD, working under the guidance of Patrick Ray, associate professor of environmental engineering. Odunola was named Graduate Student Engineer of the Month by the College of Engineering and Applied Science.

At the University of Cincinnati, students can enroll in the Global Technical Workforce course to gain professional skills that complement their technical engineering skills. Through the course, students are equipped with tools to contribute to the increasingly global and diverse work environment. Students are taught how to work in global teams and communicate interculturally and at the end of the course get the opportunity to put these skills to practice through a short study abroad trip. This year, along with faculty Eric Payton and Aimee Frame, two groups of students went to Germany and Ghana.

University of Cincinnati’s Protégé Undergraduate Research Program gives first-year College of Engineering and Applied Science students early access to research experience through a paid summer position working with faculty researchers or industry partners.

Yoonjee Park, assistant professor of chemical engineering at University of Cincinnati's College of Engineering and Applied Science, developed a biodegradable drug delivery device that is activated by light, which would allow for on-demand dosing and fewer side effects for treatment of posterior eye diseases. With recent funding awards from the National Institute of Health and a Young Investigator Award from Ohio Lions Eye Research Foundation, Park and her research team are testing the safety and efficacy of the device. In 2019, she also participated in UC’s Venture Lab business pre-accelerator.
