Before the OR, students get more anatomy practice

Charles Prestigiacomo, MD, created the Advanced Anatomy of the Head and Neck elective, offered to fourth-year students at the UC College of Medicine who are getting ready to match in surgical residencies and begin performing procedures on patients. He and colleagues are seeing how this class is better preparing students to begin their careers with a little more “real-life” practice.

A decades old epidemic inspires UC doctoral student’s journey into science

Matthew de Gannes is one of 38 students in the College of Medicine who will earn degrees during the virtual 2020 fall commencement ceremonies set for Dec. 11 and 12. The college will grant 14 doctoral, 23 master’s and one bachelor’s degree. UC is awarding a total of 2,457 degrees to 2,348 students during fall commencement. Some UC programs allow students to earn dual degrees.

Pharmacy grad with novel idea in melanoma therapy earns PhD in record time

UC grad from the James L. Winkle College of Pharmacy earns PhD in experimental therapeutics in just three and a half years. While exploring the tumor microenvironment in melanoma, Liu made a breakthrough in her doctoral research for why some patients are resistant to novel drug therapies designed to cure malignant melanoma.
