CSO and CCM announce 2020-22 class of Diversity Fellows

The University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) and the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra (CSO) have selected five outstanding musicians for their next class of CSO/CCM Diversity Fellows. Born out of a mutual desire to help American orchestras be more inclusive and to better represent the communities they serve, the performance fellowship program was launched in 2015 with a generous grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

MSN: Hepatitis C-positive livers safe for transplantation

MSN reported on a study from the University of Cincinnati and UC Health showing that patients who received a transplanted liver infected with hepatitis C and were later treated for the infection performed as well in recovery as transplant patients who received an organ free of infection. The study was published in the journal Liver Transplantation. Lead authors, Shimul Shah, MD, Shimul Shah, MD, professor of surgery in the UC College of Medicine, the James and Catherine Orr Endowed Chair of Liver Transplantation, section chief of transplantation at UC Health, and Nadeem Anwar, MD, professor in UC Department of Internal Medicine and UC Health physician, were quoted in the story.

Today we celebrate Juneteenth, the day in 1865 when Union Army General Gordon Granger read the federal proclamation of freedom from slavery in Galveston, Texas, two years after President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation. Now 155 years later, we feel it is important for us to make public our position and commitment to be a more just and inclusive civic and educational community.
