As in summers past, UC is again getting down to business on the Mediterranean island of Crete, seeking to foster environmentally sensitive tourism, preserve archaeological sites and more. Here is a letter sent back by research team member Dan MacDonald after the group's first weeks on the job.

Over the next two years, six UC graduate students in planning and 12 planning students from other U.S. schools will study abroad thanks to a program begun by a UC planning professor.

Designers from Asia, Europe, the Middle East as well as Central and South America from Argentina and Austria to Ukraine and the United Kingdom entered an auto design competition sponsored by Mitsubishi Motors. Winning the international Internet vote for best design was UC senior Nick Womeldorff.
