CCM alumna Karen Zhang (BM Piano Performance, ’16; MM Piano Performance, ’18) is the 2020 recipient of the Music Teachers National Association’s MarySue Harris Studio Teacher Fellowship. This $3,000 grant, funded by the MarySue Harris Endowment Fund, is presented annually to a recently graduated independent studio music teacher who demonstrates commitment to the music teaching profession and outstanding studio development.

For 15 years, Cincinnati public radio station 91.7 WVXU has highlighted the local arts scene in its “Around Cincinnati” broadcast, produced and hosted by Lee Hay on Sunday evenings. Throughout this time, the radio program has welcomed countless guests from UC College-Conservatory of Music including faculty, alumni and students.

Out of over 200 applicants, 12 conductors made it to La Maestra competition, including three CCM alumni: Tong, Maria Fuller (MM Orchestral Conducting, ’19; AD Opera Coaching, ’17; MM Piano Performance, ‘15) and Jiajing Lai (MM Orchestral Conducting, ‘15). Lai also advanced to the semi-final round.

Southern Methodist University's DataArts, the National Center for Arts Research, recently released the 2020 Arts Vibrancy Index Report, which measures the hotbeds of America's arts and culture. For the first time in the annual report's history, Cincinnati made the top-20 large metropolitan area list.

UC College-Conservatory of Music DMA piano student Yaoyue Huang won the Alberto Ginastera prize at the 14th International Piano Competition of Orléans. The international piano competition is arguably the most prestigious contemporary music competition in the world. Watch Huang’s performance for the competition.

Awadagin Pratt, a UC College-Conservatory of Music Professor of Piano and Artist-in-Residence, isn’t letting the COVID-19 pandemic keep him away from the concert hall or the teaching studio. Between now and the end of 2020, he will be a featured soloist on at three performances alongside the Vancouver, Lima, and Cincinnati symphonies.

Current CCM doctoral pianist Jiao Sun took home the second prize and $5,000 from the Washington International Piano Competition in early June. Sun, who attended Eastman before moving to Cincinnati for her Artist Diploma and doctorate, studies with CCM Associate Professor of Piano Soyeon Kate Lee. For her performance, Sun prepared a a full recital program of works by Brahms, Vine, Haydn, Prokofiev and Bach.

UC’s College-Conservatory of Music offers dozens of different general studies and arts elective courses in fall 2021. These credit-granting courses are open to all UC students and cover a wide range of topics including dance, movies and media, music and theatre arts! Course offerings include options for in-person and online instruction.
