New research out of the University of Cincinnati shows that a course of a hepatitis B vaccine provides complete protection for people with HIV. The UC research shows that a three-dose course of the hepatitis B vaccine HEPLISAV-B provides complete protection for people living with HIV who have never been vaccinated against or exposed to the hepatitis B virus (HBV).

Treatments for pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) — a type of high blood pressure that affects arteries in the lungs and in the heart — have improved significantly over the past 15 to 20 years and researchers at the University of Cincinnati have been at the forefront of those improvements. The result of a series of studies UC researchers were part of have allowed new medications to come to market for patients with PAH.

The University of Cincinnati is part of a multimillion-dollar grant from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute to study a strategy to prevent stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation. The trial will incorporate the use of an app on Apple Watch to monitor an irregular heartbeat to reduce patients’ reliance on blood-thinning medication.
