The story of Michael Sutton was covered by The Akron Beacon Journal and USA Today. The 33-year-old Cleveland native is an Ohio Innocence Project exoneree. He spent 15 years behind bars because of a wrongful conviction. Pierce Reed, director of policy and engagement for the Ohio Innocence Project at UC Law, says that Sutton’s journey, while incredibly unfair, is far from unique.

Michael Sutton, 35, and Kenny Phillips, 34 are finally getting their lives back. After 15 years of wrongful imprisonment Sutton has his freedom back thanks to the Ohio Innocence Project at UC Law. Phillips was also released with the help of the Wrongful Conviction Project at the Ohio Public Defender Commission. Sutton and Phillips, now have sometihng else: full rides to college. News 5 Cleveland: Cleveland Heights settles lawsuit with DNA exoneree for $4 million

March 15, 2023

The city of Cleveland Heights will pay $4 million to settle a federal civil rights lawsuit by Chistopher Miller, an Ohio Innocence Project exoneree. Miller, 46, spent 17 years behind bars after being wrongfully convicted in a sexual assault and robbery case. Miller was the 27th defendant whose wrongful conviction was overturned with the help of UC Law students and faculty.
