CCM professor wins Outstanding Publication Award from Society of Music Theory

The University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music congratulates Steven Cahn, Professor of Music Theory, on his receipt of the prestigious 2023 Outstanding Publication Award. Representing the highest honor awarded by the Society for Music Theory, this distinction was given to Cahn’s recent article “Schoenberg, Al-Kindī, and the Unbound Braid: A Rendezvous in Barcelona a Thousand Years in the Making” (Musical Quarterly, vol. 104, nos. 3–4, 2021).

Fox 19: Retired surgeon mentors UC medical students

Professor emeritus Alvin Crawford was a featured guest on Fox 19's Through the Lens segment. Crawford talks about his career as a pediatric spine surgeon. The segment features former patients and a current medical student whom Crawford mentors through a new program called Black Men in Medicine Cincinnati. Crawford's life story is recounted in a new book, "The Bone Doctor's Concerto."

U.S. News & World Report: Smoking residue on household surfaces can harm kids

A new study by UC tobacco researcher Ashley Merianos was featured in U.S. News & World Report.The study measured the amount of nicotine and tobacco related toxins on surfaces in smoking households where children reside. The residue that remains on surfaces such as walls, tables, floors and decor is called thirdhand smoke.

New York Times spotlights East Coast premiere of 'Blind Injustice'

February 23, 2024

The New York Times recently featured the East Coast premiere of "Blind Injustice," an opera based on true exonerations achieved by the Ohio Innocence Project. The production opened on Feb. 16 , 2024, at Peak Performances at Montclair State University. Premiered in 2019 at Cincinnati Opera, the opera was first workshopped through Opera Fusion: New Works (OF:NW), a collaboration between Cincinnati Opera and UC College-Conservatory of Music.
