Who is that behind the Bearcat?

The term 'Bearcat' has been part of the University of Cincinnati tradition for more than a century. The Bearcat mascot has been the face of UC to students, community members, sports fans and others. The mascot's persona and antics entertain and inspire excellence at the university on and off of the sports field.

Cheering from the stands and the stacks

Attend a Cincinnati Bearcats Women’s Basketball, Lacrosse or Volleyball game and that cheering you hear from the stands may likely be retired University of Cincinnati professors Laura and Richard Kretschmer. Loyal fans, the couple have been rooting for UC’s female student-athletes since the 1970s. This devotion doesn’t end with the season.

Through time and space, a family grounded in education

It was typical for Tom Davis, ’83 CEAS, during his teenage years, to find guests at the dinner table. He often dined with students that his parents had met through their work at the University of Cincinnati. Tom’s father, R.T. Davis, was the chair of aerospace engineering at the UC College of Engineering and Applied Science in the 1970s. His mother, Barbara Davis, tutored students at the former University College. He remembers his mother meeting student-athletes for additional early-morning tutoring sessions and his father mentoring engineering students. Their kindness and focus on helping others have served as a life compass for Tom and his wife, Gloria Davis.

Sports media production program provides real-world experience for UC students

October 3, 2022

Cincinnati CityBeat featured students in the sports media production program at UC who participate in an experience-based learning effort that allows them to work outside of the classroom to produce and direct television broadcasts that air live on ESPN+. It’s the result of a partnership between CCM, ESPN+ and UC Athletics. The class is also part of UC’s Co-op 2.0 program.
