School of Art helps establish first artist-in-residency program

The University of Cincinnati and collaborator Wave Pool — a socially engaged art center in Cincinnati — have received $75,0000 from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) to establish a program that provides artists fellowships and residencies by partnering with local businesses.

UC's College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning has been instrumental in designing, implementing and placing public art projects throughout the city.

Digital Fabrication Lab aids pandemic response

The University of Cincinnati's Digital Fabrication Lab fired up its 35 3D printers to help create products to help early in the pandemic. The projects were just a few of the 60,000 printed parts produced by the lab for UC engineering and medical students and faculty researchers and for external sources like the Cincinnati Museum Center.

UC researchers build data network to minimize flooding impact

December 2, 2020

A team of University of Cincinnati researchers is working to predict how flooding will impact cities and how to mitigate the resulting economic and human suffering. With the backing of a $5 million grant from the National Science Foundation, UC associate professor of environmental engineering Lilit Yeghiazarian is leading phase two of the research project with a multidisciplinary team to create the Urban Flooding Open Knowledge Network. The network merges data that can provide reliable flood-related information to anyone who needs it.

Putting patient health into their own hands

UC researchers are leading a pilot study examining how art therapy delivered through an app and pet robots can affect the mood of patients with hearing loss. The collaborative study seeks to allow patients to take their health into their own hands and increase accessibility of interventions.

National rankings highlight UC’s co-op program, innovation

The University of Cincinnati’s co-op program stands at No. 4 in the U.S. News & World Report’s latest rankings, continuing its historical placement among the top five co-op programs in the country — and No. 1 for co-op among public universities. The latest 2023 issue of the magazine’s influential “Best Colleges” guide ranks UC in the top tier, including among the “most innovative among national universities,” (No. 68) — UC’s first-ever ranking in that category.

State grant allows for UC’s continued research on firefighter protective gear

A team of UC researchers across three colleges has been awarded an additional $1.5 million state grant to continue research on improving firefighter protective gear. This brings the total of grant funds for the project to over $2.5 million. The research is a cross colleges effort to research and develop a new firefighter coat liner that will reduce temperatures.

Free Wi-Fi, work area coming to Greater Cincinnati

St. Lawrence Park in Price Hill now has free Wi-Fi and a furnished outdoor space for community members to access digital needs. The space is part of The Nodes Project, which stands for “Neighborhoods of Design Engagement": a collaboration between UC DAAP communication designers and community entities.
