CCM holds winds competition in memory of bassoonist William Winstead

The University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) holds the second annual competition for wind players in memory of Cincinnati Symphony principal bassoonist and long-time faculty member, William O. Winstead. The competition will culminate with a public performance with finalists on April 22, 2022 at CCM’s Robert J. Werner Recital Hall.

In the News: CCM performs at New York's Carnegie Hall

UC College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) students and Broadway alumni took the stage at Carnegie Hall to present a one-night-only performance and fundraiser to help support the next generation of performing and media artists. The January 14 event honored CCM alumnus Stephen Flaherty while also raising money for CCM scholarships and educational initiatives.

CCM Opera’s spring 2022 production of "Galileo Galilei" nominated for BroadwayWorld awards

CCM Opera’s production of Philp Glass’s Galileo Galilei recently nabbed five nominations in BroadwayWorld Cincinnati’s annual awards for excellence in the region’s performing arts. The production, which ran from March 31 to April 3, 2022, has been recognized in the categories of Best Ensemble, Best Direction of a Musical (Greg Eldridge, Associate Professor of Opera Directing), Best Lighting Design of a Play or Musical (Ian Macintosh, BFA Lighting Design ‘22, and Thomas Hase, MFA Lighting Design) and Best Choreography (Hazel Alexander, BFA Dance ‘24). The awards are determined by audience vote, and the online poll is open through December 31.

Greece honors two UC Classics researchers with ‘Order of Phoenix’

The two made several groundbreaking archaeological discoveries in Pylos that are shaping our understanding of ancient Greece.

UC expert helps museum's 'Pompeii' come to life

February 13, 2024

University of Cincinnati Classics Professor Steven Ellis last year published the first of four historical volumes on his work as director of excavations at Pompeii’s Porta Stabia neighborhood. Now he is lending his expertise to a new exhibit on Pompeii at the Cincinnati Museum Center. “Pompeii: The Exhibition” opens at the museum on Feb. 16. It features 150 priceless artifacts from the ancient city.
