Alumna Cindy Chiang Halvorsen ’04 was part of the University of Cincinnati’s inaugural biomedical engineering graduating class. After her time at UC, she parlayed her engineering problem-solving skills and experience as a student leader into a successful brand marketing career. She’s now Executive Sales Coach at Google — and was the winner of the reality show, The Amazing Race. She's also launched an Asian American women leadership initiative.

Vishnu Sriram came to the University of Cincinnati from his home country of India to pursue a master’s in chemical engineering. He decided to stay at UC for his Ph.D. to research nanoparticle gene and drug delivery that could someday lead to improved cancer treatments.

When volunteers at the nonprofit 4 Paws for Ability in Xenia, Ohio, are looking for enrichment experiences for their puppies, they turn to a toy that has entertained millions of toddlers around the world. With sales of 500,000 per year, Little Tikes’ Cozy Coupe is considered the best-selling car in America. And it was the 1979 creation of a former University of Cincinnati industrial design student Jim Mariol.

UC engineering student Jake Bartel has his sights set on earning a computer science degree and becoming a fashion model, along with his twin brother Nate. In 2022, the twins were first selected to walk the runway in the Gucci fashion show in Milan, Italy and then asked back to model for the fashion house's 2023 advertising campaign. The brothers were discovered by talent scouts at the annual Twins reunion in Twinsburg, Ohio, which is also their hometown.

University of Cincinnati aerospace engineering doctoral student Lynn Pickering is using Fuzzy Logic to create an artificial intelligence structure that is fair, usable, and understandable for humans. This is called Explainable Artificial Intelligence. Pickering is a recipient of the Fulbright Ghent University Award and was named Graduate Student Engineer of the Month by UC’s College of Engineering and Applied Science.

Ever wonder how everyday technology works? Your phone? Gaming systems? Search? A new University of Cincinnati course offered this fall, ‘CS-CA1001: Computer Appreciation: Thinking and Creating Like a Computer Scientist,’ is designed to give students of all majors an introduction into the field of computer science. The goal of the course is to demystify various aspects of computer science, including how computing machines are harnessed to solve problems in game playing, discover information, and control simple robots. The course will also cover the implications of computing technologies on safety, security, and ethics.

Sports Illustrated featured University of Cincinnati alumnus and Indianapolis Colts NFL football player Alec Pierce. While at UC, Pierce was a standout wide receiver for Bearcats Football. He graduated in December 2021 with a mechanical engineering degree.
