Alumna Cindy Chiang Halvorsen ’04 was part of the University of Cincinnati’s inaugural biomedical engineering graduating class. After her time at UC, she parlayed her engineering problem-solving skills and experience as a student leader into a successful brand marketing career. She’s now Executive Sales Coach at Google — and was the winner of the reality show, The Amazing Race. She's also launched an Asian American women leadership initiative.

UC alum's research could predict pandemic hotspots

When Faray Majid was a mechanical engineering graduate student at the University of Cincinnati, he worked on a research project that identified future COVID-19 hotspots. As a recent graduate, he counts that work as one of his top accomplishments and he hopes it will be useful for predicting the spread in any future pandemics.

New international program tackles artificial intelligence skills shortage

The University of Cincinnati College of Engineering and Applied Science and Coventry University in the UK have partnered to offer an international master's program in artificial intelligence to help address a global skills shortage in AI. Students will be able to complete different parts of the program at both UC and at Coventry University.

But two students at the University of Cincinnati say the best is yet to come in year two as the rover and their NASA science team begin in earnest to look for ancient life on another planet.

Through time and space, a family grounded in education

It was typical for Tom Davis, ’83 CEAS, during his teenage years, to find guests at the dinner table. He often dined with students that his parents had met through their work at the University of Cincinnati. Tom’s father, R.T. Davis, was the chair of aerospace engineering at the UC College of Engineering and Applied Science in the 1970s. His mother, Barbara Davis, tutored students at the former University College. He remembers his mother meeting student-athletes for additional early-morning tutoring sessions and his father mentoring engineering students. Their kindness and focus on helping others have served as a life compass for Tom and his wife, Gloria Davis.

Apex: Air Force awards grants to UC, tech partner

UC will use U.S. Air Force grants to develop state-of-the-art partner with Pennsylvania company VISIMO to develop new artificial intelligence algorithms for unmanned aerial vehicles using small business technology transfer grants from the U.S. Air Force.
