Engineering student works to ensure responsible use of AI

University of Cincinnati aerospace engineering doctoral student Lynn Pickering is using Fuzzy Logic to create an artificial intelligence structure that is fair, usable, and understandable for humans. This is called Explainable Artificial Intelligence. Pickering is a recipient of the Fulbright Ghent University Award and was named Graduate Student Engineer of the Month by UC’s College of Engineering and Applied Science.

Apex: Air Force awards grants to UC, tech partner

Trailblazing engineering professor honored with alumni award

Professor Awatef Hamed is a trailblazer. She came of age during a time when few women were going to college to study engineering. In 1968, she left her home in Egypt and came to the University of Cincinnati as the only female graduate student in the aerospace engineering program. She went on to get her master’s and doctoral degrees from UC and then was hired as a faculty member, where she was the only female faculty member for two decades. In 2001, she became the first woman to head a college aerospace engineering department.

Engineering graduate student works to change the future of aviation

Jorge Betancourt, an aerospace engineering doctoral student at the University of Cincinnati, is researching rotating detonation combustors that are slated to impact the future of aviation and rocketry. Thus far during his time at UC, Betancourt has had the opportunity to create assignments that challenge and help students understand material as a teaching assistant and was named Graduate Student Engineer of the Month by the College of Engineering and Applied Science.
