GE Aerospace expands Next Engineers program for Cincinnati youth

GE Aerospace Foundation is investing further in its Next Engineers program, including the Cincinnati location facilitated by the University of Cincinnati, extending the program locally through 2028. Engineering Academy, a three-year engineering education program for high-schoolers, graduated its first cohort of students. Students who complete the program and go on to pursue an engineering degree in college will receive a scholarship.

Engineering students learn importance of global connections

At the University of Cincinnati, students can enroll in the Global Technical Workforce course to gain professional skills that complement their technical engineering skills. Through the course, students are equipped with tools to contribute to the increasingly global and diverse work environment. Students are taught how to work in global teams and communicate interculturally and at the end of the course get the opportunity to put these skills to practice through a short study abroad trip. This year, along with faculty Eric Payton and Aimee Frame, two groups of students went to Germany and Ghana.

Engineering student works to improve water infrastructure

After earning her bachelor's degree in civil engineering at a premier university in Nigeria, Tolulope Odunola became fascinated by the world of hydrology and water systems and set off to continue her education in environmental engineering. She came to the University of Cincinnati for her master's degree, and the experience left such an impact she stayed for her PhD, working under the guidance of Patrick Ray, associate professor of environmental engineering. Odunola was named Graduate Student Engineer of the Month by the College of Engineering and Applied Science.

KFC chief marketer awarded UC engineering alumni honor

University of Cincinnati alumna Andrea Zahumensky proves that an engineering degree can provide a valuable foundation for a successful career in any field. Zahumensky earned her degree from in industrial engineering in 2000 and she carved her path from engineering through IT and into marketing. Since 2017, she has been the Chief Marketing Officer of KFC U.S., a subsidiary of Yum! Brands, leading marketing, advertising, media and digital initiatives. Prior to joining KFC, Zahumensky had a 20-year career at P&G. She is being honored with the 2020 Herman Schneider Distinguished Alumni Award from the UC College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS).

Construction management student finds niche in leadership roles

Construction management student Phillip Stoll made the most of his time at the University of Cincinnati by participating in construction competitions, leading organizations like the Construction Student Association and mentoring younger students. Stoll, who was named Undergraduate Engineer of the Month by UC College of Engineering and Applied Science, will graduate this spring with a job offer from a former co-op employer.
