Computer appreciation class highlights technology’s impact on daily life

Ever wonder how everyday technology works? Your phone? Gaming systems? Search? A new University of Cincinnati course offered this fall, ‘CS-CA1001: Computer Appreciation: Thinking and Creating Like a Computer Scientist,’ is designed to give students of all majors an introduction into the field of computer science. The goal of the course is to demystify various aspects of computer science, including how computing machines are harnessed to solve problems in game playing, discover information, and control simple robots. The course will also cover the implications of computing technologies on safety, security, and ethics.

UC electrical engineering graduate developing future Intel chips

June 8, 2023

While earning her doctoral degree in electrical engineering at the University of Cincinnati, Megha Chitranshi focused her research on the creation of nanotube hybrid fabrics to foster a sustainable environment. Chitranshi now works as a yield engineer at Intel. Before she graduated, she was named Graduate Student Engineer of the Month by UC’s College of Engineering and Applied Science.

Goldwater scholar Greg Muha, an electrical engineering undergraduate at the University of Cincinnati, is studying how to apply a polarizing material to microchips to create circuits that use less energy.

UC engineering student merges human language, computer science

August 7, 2023

Zedong Peng came to the University of Cincinnati to continue his research in software engineering, focusing on natural language processing and metamorphic testing. At UC he has served as a teaching assistant for several courses in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, has published several peer-reviewed papers and was recently named Graduate Student Engineer of the Month by UC's College of Engineering and Applied Science. After graduating, Peng will serve as assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Montana.

Electrical engineering student encourages young women in STEM

For four years, University of Cincinnati doctoral student Brooke Campbell has been a graduate assistant in the UC Undergraduates Pursuing Research in Science and Engineering (UPRISE) program. After working for five years in the tech industry, she returned to school to pursue a graduate degree. Her research work focuses on using a process called electrospinning to create nanofibers loaded with medicine for targeted drug delivery. She was named Graduate Student Engineer of the Month by UC’s College of Engineering and Applied Science.

Engineering alumnus presented with lifetime achievement award

Michael Valentine’s career as an innovator and entrepreneur has spanned more than four decades, and has included the creation of an industry-changing radar detector and two successful companies, Cincinnati Microwave, and his current business, Valentine Research. Through the years, Mike and his wife, Peg — both UC alumni — have become prodigious philanthropists at the University of Cincinnati and within the region, giving of their time and treasure to many causes close to their hearts.
