Digital Fabrication Lab aids pandemic response

The University of Cincinnati's Digital Fabrication Lab fired up its 35 3D printers to help create products to help early in the pandemic. The projects were just a few of the 60,000 printed parts produced by the lab for UC engineering and medical students and faculty researchers and for external sources like the Cincinnati Museum Center.

Aerospace engineering student encourages women in her field

Rachel Wiggins, aerospace engineering doctoral student at the University of Cincinnati, is testing a rotating detonation engine that is smaller and more efficient than existing combustion engine technology. Outside of her research work, Wiggins launched Women in Flight, a student organization that fosters a supportive environment for women in aerospace and aviation fields. She was named Graduate Student Engineer of the Month by the College of Engineering and Applied Science.

UC student aims to better interpret artificial intelligence

Javier Viaña Pérez started his studies in mechanical engineering earning two degrees in his native Spain and then came to the University of Cincinnati for his master’s and Ph.D. in aerospace engineering. He has racked up a long list of accomplishments, including creating a high-resolution camera for microsatellites that is currently in use on the International Space Station. His doctoral research in artificial intelligence is dedicated to making a radical shift in how we think about AI. He was named UC College of Engineering and Applied Science Graduate Student Engineer of the Month.
