Director and educator Rachel Stevens joins CCM's faculty

UC College-Conservatory of Music Interim Dean Jonathan Kregor has announced the addition of Rachel M. Stevens to the college’s roster of distinguished performing and media arts faculty members. Stevens begins her new role as CCM’s Visiting Assistant Professor of Acting in Musical Theatre on Aug. 15, 2023.

More than an award for UC engineering students

More than 13 years ago, Jim Goetz, BSEE ’88, anonymously set up an award program benefiting University of Cincinnati College of Engineering and Applied Science students. He quietly named the awards after his beloved grandmother, Mae, and favorite UC professor, Thomas Mantei, PhD, wanting to assist high-achieving students in electrical engineering, computer engineering and computer science programs.

Young alum pays it forward

In the world of college scholarships, talented international students often find themselves sifting through lists of awards and endowments, only to find they are ineligible for most financial grants without a U.S. citizenship. One international DAAP grad, Saakshi Terway, turned these negatives into a positive pathway for others by starting a scholarship fund for international students who face similar financial barriers.

Big 12 era begins for Bearcats

The University of Cincinnati officially entered the Big 12 as a conference member on July 1, 2023. The move has elevated UC’s reputation and exposure both athletically and academically on a national level. One of the premier athletic conferences, the Big 12 is now comprised of 14 institutions after welcoming BYU, UCF, Cincinnati and Houston. The Bearcats will look to reach even greater heights as a member of the Power 5 conference that has seen its teams win 81 team national championships since its inception in 1994.

Alumnus makes gift to University of Cincinnati LGBTQ Center

June 28, 2023

A University of Cincinnati alumnus has made a $200,000 gift to the university’s LGBTQ Center. Bruce Besanko, A&S ’82, retired Kohl’s chief financial officer, has created the Bruce Besanko Support Fund for the LGBTQ Center. The UC LGBTQ Center enhances the campus community for LGBTQ students and their allies through intentional advocacy, providing a safe space, intersectional programming, and access to culturally relevant resources. The Center has been on campus since 2011. Besanko says he wants to directly impact students who use the center as a resource. His gift will support both operational and direct student support.

The curtain is up on a digital play: 'Lucid Dreaming'

The Cincinnati Review has produced a digital play, the technology version of a stage play. The work, 'Lucid Dreaming' by David Greg is presented in web page format with scrolling features. This was a cross-college effort and is believed to be the first of its kind.
