Local 12: What researchers say we should know about heart inflammation and COVID-19 vaccine

Carl Fichtenbaum, MD, of the UC College of Medicine Division of Infectious Diseases was interviewed by two local TV stations for a story they did on myocarditis and COVID-19 vaccines. An advisory committee to the CDC is looking into reports that some teenagers and young adults who have received the COVID-19 vaccine have experienced heart inflammation. They’re reviewing these cases to see if there’s a possible connection.

WVXU: UC looking For COVID-19 research volunteers

UC esearchers are part of the worldwide effort to better understand COVID-19 and how it has impacted communities. For nearly seven months now, they've relied on volunteers to provide information about how they've experienced the pandemic. But the window to help with the nationwide Community Prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 Study, called COMPASS, is closing. In an interview with WVXU, Maggie Powers-Fletcher, MD, of the Division of Infectious Diseases in the UC College of Medicine, says the trial involves completing a questionnaire and providing blood and nasal swab samples.

Local 12: 180 UC med students receive white coats, students embark on journey during pandemic

The University of Cincinnati College of Medicine welcomed 180 newly admitted first-year students during the college’s 26th annual White Coat Ceremony. The ceremony was held Friday at 10 a.m. at Cincinnati Music Hall, 1241 Elm Street. Each member of the class of 2025 were presented with a white lab coat, symbolizing entry into the medical profession. Local 12 covered the event.
