A team of University of Cincinnati engineering students won first place in the virtual Environmental Challenge International Competition hosted by the Air and Waste Management Association. For the challenge, the students were tasked with proposing effective solutions to a simulated environmental problem based on real-world events. Their winning solution included suggesting modular nuclear energy.
Diversity of thought, cultures, and backgrounds is important in engineering fields. Problem solving is easier when more are involved. Learn more from Dr. Whitney Gaskins, Assistant Dean of Inclusive Excellence and Community Engagement.

The COVID-19 pandemic resulted in a forced pause to the usual international travel experiences at the University of Cincinnati. In response to a call for innovative ideas for virtual global experiences, Cedrick Kwuimy, assistant professor-educator in UC’s Department of Engineering Education, devised a program to give first-year engineering students some of the same growth opportunities they would have with a study abroad or work abroad program. UC students collaborated virtually with students at University of Cape Coast in Ghana and at Bahir Dar University in Ethiopia
