Grammy Award-winning singer Elliot Madore joins CCM’s faculty

UC College-Conservatory of Music Dean Stanley E. Romanstein has announced the addition of accomplished baritone Elliot Madore to the college’s roster of distinguished performing and media arts faculty members. One of the most sought-after singers of his generation, Madore has performed throughout Europe, Canada and the US. His new appointment as Associate Professor of Voice at CCM begins on Aug. 15, 2021.

The American Prize Competition honors CCM faculty member Amy Johnson as a Distinguished Vocal Artist

CCM Associate Professor of Voice Amy Johnson was named a Distinguished Vocal Artist of the American Prize as part of that competition's annual Independence Day Honors program. The award was presented to both Johnson and mezzo-soprano Adriana Zabala by the American Prize National Nonprofit Competitions in the Performing Arts in memory of the great Wagnerian baritone, Friedrich Schorr, and his wife, Virginia. An internationally-known soprano and vocal pedagogue, Johnson is recognized as one of America's finest singing actresses. She currently serves as co-director of CCM's Undergraduate Opera Workshop.

CCM announces the winners of its 2021 Opera Scholarship Competition

Twenty-three current and incoming students competed for five coveted full-tuition scholarships and $53,000 in additional awards during CCM's 2021 Opera Scholarship Competition. Six students won awards in this year’s competition, which was conducted virtually on Friday, March 5, 2021, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

CCM student named Grand Finals Winner of the Metropolitan Opera’s 2019 National Council Auditions

CCM student Elena Villalón has been named a Grand Finals Winner of the Metropolitan Opera’s 2019 National Council Auditions. After a months-long series of auditions involving more than 1,000 singers at the district, regional and national levels, a panel of expert judges named Villalón and four other singers as the winners of the 65th annual Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. Each winner receives a $15,000 cash prize.

CCM faculty member Elliot Madore opens up about identity in new film project

Acclaimed baritone and CCM Associate Professor of Voice Elliot Madore stars in Identity: A Song Cycle, a new film from Against the Grain Theatre directed by Joel Ivany. The film, which was released on Oct. 23, features the performance of five new songs—with music by composer Dinuk Wijeratne and original poetry by Shauntay Grant—and is currently available to stream on Against the Grain Theatre’s website.

Q&A: CCM student Emma Marhefka discusses her company debut with Knoxville Opera

Emma Marhefka, a second-year master’s student in UC College-Conservatory of Music’s Voice Performance program, made a company debut this fall with Knoxville Opera singing the role of Younger Alyce in Tom Cipullo’s 2007 opera Glory Denied. The production, directed by Dean Anthony and conducted by Steven White, ran Sept. 9-11, 2022.

CCM alumna featured in PBS broadcast

November 2, 2022

To celebrate its return to the newly renovated David Geffen Hall at Lincoln Center, the New York Philarmonic recorded a program of masterworks and world premieres to be broadcast on PBS. Led by Philharmonic Music Director Jaap van Zweden, the concert features CCM alumna Joélle Harvey (BM Voice '07, MM Voice '09) as the soprano soloist in Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy.” The recorded program will premiere at 9 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 4, as part of PBS’s Great Performances series.
