UC architecture alumna Kristine Sturgeon has plans to grow DefineMyStyle.com to 100,000 users, specifically girls who can use the site to learn business skills and collaborate on designs. She recently won $690,000 in investment from CincyTech, Queen City Angels, Tech Coast Angels in Los Angeles and others.

Beginning designers seeking to impress employers now have a much-needed guide for putting together that all-important portfolio. The guide, "Hire Me?! The Portfolio Handbook," was created by UC design seniors and has recently received positive press.

UC s Craig Vogel, an internationally known designer, educator and author, has been appointed as an interim to fill the Terry Fruth/Gemini Chair of Signage Design and Community Planning. In that role, he will initiate the framework for further collaborative research and teaching related to issues of signage at the university.

JackBacks, which provides custom-wood iPhone backs to a smart-phone generation, is the entrepreneurial brainchild of young fine art alum Adam Baumgartner. The custom panels have made headlines on techie websites Mashable and Gizmodo and have been sold to MTV execs.

The traveling exhibit, "From Pyramids to Spacecraft," will come to UC's College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning April 20-June 15. The exhibit features select projects by the design studio Architecture and Vision, founded by architects Arturo Vittori and Andreas Vogler.
