Since earning her 1969 fine arts and art education degrees at UC, Carole Conatser has made, exhibited and sold arts and crafts ranging from contemporary needlework, jewelry, black-and-white photography, welded steel sculptures, ceramics and, most recently, encaustic painting.

UC fine arts alum Don Schuster, who specializes in landscapes done in oils, is the January featured artist at Gallery 42 Fine Art in Mason.

UC students recently created and installed art currently displayed in the windows of ten businesses along Ludlow Avenue in Clifton. The students celebrated the installation of their works by also designing costumes and participating in an informal holiday parade.

As a boy, UC planning alum Josh Whitehead once ate a pecan pie without permission. So, his mother sent him to the store for more syrup to make a new dessert. That led Whitehead on a long bike trip that included a major roadway in the auto-centric city of Plano, Tex., and ultimately led to an interest in urban environments and planning.

UC students will showcase their skills at the School of Design's Annual Body Mantle Show set for Oct. 30. The show, which is free and open to the public, challenges students to create wearable art pieces crafted of at least 100 units of eclectic materials, like tinfoil or Christmas lights.
