UC student designers are on a winning streak. Two UC students worked this past year to create the graphic designs that millions will see come the Feb. 3 Super Bowl. It s the fourth year in a row that UC student designers have been picked to quarterback this high-profile project.

Dresses of dryer sheets, medical gauze, seatbelts and more are the out-of-the ordinary results from a recently completed fashion design class at UC. Now, these textbook-defying textiles will go on display at Macy's downtown.

UC research takes center stage at UC s Tangeman University Center on March 7. Showcase 2008 displays and demonstrates tomorrow s technology today: A race track with hydrogen-powered cars, a green roof model where visitors can help water and grow that roof, and medical breakthroughs like a sniff test that can indicate the onset of neurological diseases.

UC's solar house will be back on campus as part of Showcase 2008. In the project, UC has partnered with area businesses both large (Procter & Gamble) and small (Aluminum Extruded Shapes) to see how everything from local consumer products to parts manufacturers can benefit from the new emphasis on sustainability.

David Varady s research touches on complicated contemporary issues real estate and housing, race and religion, aging and economics and, sometimes, all of the above. Because his research literally touches people where they live, Varady is the winner of UC s 2008 Rieveschl Award for Creative and Scholarly Works.
