Cincinnati's classical public radio station, 90.9 WGUC, celebrates Cincinnati Opera's 100th anniversary with a series of special encore performances every Saturday through July. This Sunday, July 18, 2020, the radio station will broadcast the world premiere of "Fellow Travelers," featuring faculty and alumni from UC's College-Conservatory of Music.

In the middle of his final semester at UC’s College-Conservatory of Music, orchestral conducting student Jeremy Robin Lyons found himself in a new world that deprived him — for now — of the communal experience of making music with other people in person. The pandemic canceled performances, forced classes to move online and separated loved ones, but Robins was hopeful and set out to create a virtual choir and orchestra project that united musicians online.

UC College-Conservatory of Music AD flute student Chaz Salazar is the 2020 Orchestral Futurist Fellow at the National Orchestral Institute + Festival (NOI+F). Offered by the NOI+F in partnership with the Sphinx Organization, the Fellowship aims to further advance the power of diversity in the arts.

New Music USA recently announced six composers who have been co-commissioned to write new orchestral works through its Amplifying Voices Program, supported by the Sphinx Venture Fund. As one of the lead orchestras in the program, Berkeley Symphony co-commissioned UC College-Conservatory of Music alumnus Brian Raphael Nabors (MM Composition, ’15; DMA Composition, ’19) to write a new piece that will be premiered in the 2021-22 season.

In its inaugural year, the Gena Branscombe Project has awarded its 2020 scholarships to four women, including UC College-Conservatory of Music Arts Administration student Sydney Pepper. The scholarships support the winners in their continuing pursuit of undergraduate and graduate studies and shine “a light on exceptional emerging, talented, women in music.”

These credit-granting courses are open to all UC students and cover a wide range of topics including dance, movies and media, music and theatre arts!
