Presidential challenge to UC: Join Ride Cincinnati to fight cancer

UC President Neville Pinto has again challenged every UC college and unit to send at least one rider to the September 14 Ride Cincinnati event to help fundraise for cancer research and cancer care. UC students ride free. Signup by July 31 for free UC-branded cycling jersey.

UC Serves 2023 underscores university's commitment to Cincinnati community

A farewell for the iconic Crosley Tower

The Cincinnati Business Courier reports that UC Board of Trustees approved $47.3 million for remediation and demolition of Crosley Tower. There are mixed feelings about what has been dubbed by some as the ugliest building on a U.S. college campus.

UC student athlete alum spends career paying it forward

Maggie McKinley-Maric, A&S ’00, was running hurdles for the University of Cincinnati track and field team when life placed different types of hurdles in her path. She was a rising sophomore when her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. And she was a gay woman striving to find her way in a pre-enlightened world while sometimes feeling that she and her gay friends were “part of a secret society.”

UC’s Olympic poetry in motion

Five former University of Cincinnati athletes and one current second-year student prepare to compete in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics in July and August, representing four nations in five athletic competitions. Former Bearcats include Annette Echikunwoke, hammer throw (Nigeria); Vanessa Gilles, women's soccer (Canada); Nate Fish, baseball (Israel); Jordan Thompson, volleyball (U.S.) and Lewis Johnson (NBC Sports TV broadcaster). Lawrence Sapp, second-year UC student will compete in the Paralympic swim competition in late August.

UC grad heads to Super Bowl as Bengals assistant head athletic trainer

Dan Willen, the assistant head athletic trainer for the AFC Champion Cincinnati Bengals, graduated from UC in 1998 with a degree in health promotion with an emphasis on athletic training. That program would be part of the formation a year later of the College of Allied Health Sciences. One of the reasons Dan, who went to high school in Dayton, OH, chose UC is because his dad graduated from the aerospace engineering program at UC in 1968 and did his co-op at NASA during the height of the manned missions to the moon.
