CCM presents Stephen Flaherty tribute at New York's Carnegie Hall

CHRISTY ALTOMARE (BFA Musical Theatre, ’08)

Christy Altomare originated the role of Anya in the Broadway production of Anastasia for which she received the Theatre World Award and was nominated for an Outer Critics Award and a Drama Desk Award for lead actress in a musical. She made her Broadway debut playing the role of Sophie Sheridan in Mamma Mia! Off-Broadway, Christy portrayed the role of Sue Snell in MCC’s revival of Carrie the Musical. Christy can be heard in the cast recordings of both Anastasia and Carrie. She toured the country in the first national tour of Spring Awakening, playing the role of Wendla Bergman. Regional credits include Jerusha Abbott in John Caird and Paul Gordon’s production of Daddy Long Legs, Guinevere in Camelot at Drury Lane in Chicago, Nellie Forbush in South Pacific at the Aspen Music Festival, Susan Butterfield in The Wanderer at the Papermill and most recently, Scarlet in Noir. Christy is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. Along with her passion for musical theater, she is a songwriter/recording artist, who currently released her new album of original music called "Wandering Bird." ASHLEY BROWN (BFA Musical Theatre, ’04)

Ashley Brown originated the title role in Mary Poppins on Broadway, for which she received Outer Critics, Drama League, and Drama Desk nominations for Best Actress. Ms. Brown also starred in the national tour of Mary Poppins, garnering a Garland award for “Best Performance in a Musical.” Ms. Brown’s other Broadway credits include Belle in The Beauty and The Beast and the national tour of Disney’s On The Record. Ms. Brown most recently starred as Mother Abbess in multiple Tony Award winning director Jack O’Brien’s new production of The Sound of Music. Starring in the Lyric Opera of Chicago’s production of Oklahoma brought her further critical acclaim. She previously played Magnolia opposite Nathan Gunn in Francesca Zembello’s Showboat at the Lyric Opera of Chicago. Ms. Brown has performed with virtually all of the top orchestras in North America, including the Boston Pops, the New York Philharmonic, The Hollywood Bowl Orchestra at Disney Hall, The Pittsburgh Symphony, the New York Pops at Carnegie Hall (five times), Fort Worth Symphony, the Cincinnati Pops, Philadelphia Orchestra (two times), the Milwaukee Symphony, the Indianapolis Symphony (three times), Seattle Symphony, the Houston Symphony, Vancouver Symphony, Jacksonville (twice), and the Philly Pops. She has also performed with the BBC orchestra opposite Josh Groban. Ms. Brown made her solo concert debut at The Kennedy Center as part of Barbara Cook’s Spotlight Series, and has appeared in New York City at prestigious venues Feinstein’s at the Regency and Birdland. Other projects include star turns in The Golden Apple at City Center Encores, Hello Dolly at The Goodspeed Opera House, The Sound of Music at the St. Louis MUNY (for which she won a Kevin Kline award), Limelight at the La Jolla Playhouse, and her own PBS special entitled “Ashley Brown: Call Me Irresponsible,” which received a PBS Telly. Other television credits include NBC’s The Sound of Music. Ms. Brown is the voice of Disneyland’s 60th anniversary celebrations, singing the newly-penned Richard Sherman song “A Kiss Goodnight.” Both Ms. Brown’s album of Broadway and American Songbook standards “Speak Low” and her newly recorded Christmas EP “The Secret of Christmas” are available on Ghostlight/Warner Brothers. LIZ CALLAWAY

Tony nominee and Emmy winner Liz Callaway made her Broadway debut in Stephen Sondheim’s Merrily We Roll Along. She has gone on to star in Baby, Miss Saigon, The Look of Love, The Three Musketeers, and for 5 years appeared as Grizabella in Cats. Off-Broadway appearances include The Spitfire Grill (Drama Desk nomination), Marry Me a Little and Brownstone. Regional and international credits include the oneperson play “Every Brilliant Thing”, Dot in Sunday in the Park with George, Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard, and the European premiere of Sondheim on Sondheim at London’s Royal Festival Hall. Liz sang the Academy Award nominated song “Journey to the Past” in the animated feature "Anastasia." Other film work includes Jasmine in the two "Aladdin" sequels, "The Swan Princess," and "The Rewrite" with Hugh Grant. Her extensive concert and symphony career has included appearances in London, Paris, Vietnam, Australia, China, and nearly every major city in the U.S. She performs regularly with her sister Ann Hampton Callaway, as well as composer Stephen Schwartz, and has had the pleasure of singing with Jimmy Webb, Paul Williams, and the legendary Johnny Mathis. JASON GRAAE (BFA Musical Theatre, ’80)

Jason Graae has been featured on Broadway in A Grand Night for Singing, Falsettos, Stardust, Snoopy!, Do Black Patent Leather Shoes Really Reflect Up?. Off- Broadway shows include the original casts of Forever Plaid, Olympus on My Mind, Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh (Drama Desk Nomination-Best Actor in a Musical) and many more. National Tours include Wicked, (The Wizard), Falsettos, (Mendel), and the Los Angeles production of Ragtime. (Houdini) Jason made his Metropolitan Opera House debut as the male vocalist in Twyla Tharp’s Everlast with American Ballet Theatre. Jason has performed his one man show all over the country, winning 4 Bistro Awards and 2 N.Y Nightlife Awards. His critically acclaimed show with Faith Prince, The Prince and the Showboy has played all over the US, winning a New York Nightlife Award and a Robby for best duo. In Los Angeles, Jason won the L.A. Drama Critics Circle Award for outstanding achievement in musical theatre. He originated Forbidden Hollywood and Forbidden Broadway Y2KLA! (Ovation Award). At The Hollywood Bowl, he played Benny in Guys and Dolls and Marcellus in The Music Man and with LA Opera, he was featured in The Merry Widow and The Grand Duchess. For 3 years, he starred as Scrooge in the world premiere of “Scrooge in Love” in San Francisco (Theatre Bay Award). On television, Jason has appeared on many shows including “Six Feet Under”, “Rude Awakening”, “Friends”, “Frasier”, “Sabrina the Teenage Witch”, “Living Single”, ”Caroline in the City”, “Providence”, etc. On PBS, he was a guest soloist twice with the Boston Pops, sang with Marvin Hamlisch and the National Symphony in “Holiday for the Troops at The Kennedy Center” and was in the Jerry Herman documentary “Words and Music by Jerry Herman.” He has been heard on many cartoons and for 5 and 1/2 years was the voice of “Lucky, the Leprechaun” for Lucky Charms Cereal. AARON LAZAR (MFA Musical Theatre, ’00)

Aaron Lazar is a SAG Award and Connecticut Critics Circle Award winner and Drama Desk Award nominee who has starred in 11 Broadway productions. He debuted in The Phantom of the Opera; originated roles in the world premieres of A Tale of Two Cities, Impressionism and The Last Ship; starred in the revivals of A Little Night Music and Les Miserables; and romanced audiences in The Light in the Piazza at Lincoln Center and Live from Lincoln Center on PBS. He also starred as Larry Murphy in the first national tour of the Tony Award-winning smash Dear Evan Hansen and as Dr. Neville Craven in The Secret Garden at The Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles. On film and television, Aaron can be seen in The Daniel’s Academy Award winning film Everything, Everywhere All At Once and Season 5 of Yellowstone. He has worked with legendary directors Clint Eastwood (J.Edgar), Martin Scorsese (The Wolf of Wall Street), Shawn Levy (This is Where I Leave You), Mary Harron (The Notorious Bettie Page) and The Russo Brothers (Avengers: Infinity War & Avengers: Endgame). Aaron was also one of the stars of “Filthy Rich” on FOX. GEOFF PACKARD (BFA Musical Theatre, '04)

As an actor, Geoff Packard has been seen on Broadway in Bandstand, Matilda, Rock of Ages, and Phantom of The Opera, as well as the First National Tour of Wicked, and has performed across the country at theatres such as: Papermill Playhouse, Goodman Theatre, Arena Stage, Shakespeare Theatre (DC), Ford’s Theatre, Lookingglass Theatre, Signature Theatre (DC), Huntington Theatre, Court Theatre, Bucks County Playhouse, KC Rep, and Goodspeed Opera House. Geoff has a Joseph Jefferson award (Chicago) a Helen Hayes Award (DC) and a IRNE Award (Boston) for Leading Actor in a Musical. As a soloist, Geoff has sung with Toronto, Detroit, Cincinnati, and Sioux City Symphonies. Geoff is an Assistant Professor of Acting/Directing at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. As a director Geof has worked on Water By the Spoonful, The Exonerated, Myths and Hymns and For The Record at the University of Michigan. STEPHANIE JAE PARK (BFA Musical Theatre, '14)

You may have seen Stephanie Jae Park burning up the stage as Eliza in the Broadway company of Hamilton. While Stephanie is better known for singing the contemporary/hip-hop Hamilton Score, she actually grew up as a classical singer and dancer. Stephanie’s classical training landed her a role in the Original Broadway Cast of The King and I as a Tuptim understudy and featured dancer, as well as in the Original Broadway Cast of War Paint. Other theatre credits include: Cinderella (1st National Tour, Marie u/s), Sunday in the Park (NYCC), The King and I (The Muny, Tuptim), The Music Man (BMA, Marian), Oklahoma! (Lyric Opera of Chicago), etc. She’s dabbled in the TV/Film world with such roles as Pen, Again (Pen), The Blessing (Brittany), and The Nanny (Christie). Stephanie is also a singer/songwriter, and recently released an original debut album Fire to My Air with her new music group, Saffron Lips @ saffronlips, available on all streaming platforms! ALTON FITZGERALD WHITE (Musical Theatre, att. 1983-86)

After completing a recordbreaking 4,308 performances as King Mufasa in Disney’s The Lion King on Broadway, Alton Fitzgerald White added Author and in-demand Keynote Speaker to his growing list of titles. Both his book and the audiobook of My Pride: Mastering The Challenge Of Daily Performance, an inspirational biography filled with secrets to fulfillment and joy in work and life published by Disney Editions, have been nominated for several major national book awards. Other Broadway starring roles include Mister in The Color Purple, Coalhouse Walker Jr. in Ragtime, Ken in Smokey Joe’s Cafe, John in Miss Saigon and The Hawker in The Who’s Tommy. Alton made his West End debut as Ken in Smokey Joe’s Cafe in London and has performed concert dates all over the world including engagements with the BBC Orchestra at London’s legendary Royal Albert Hall, Carnegie Hall, The Boston Pops, Tanglewood, Tokyo International Forum, The Atlanta Symphony, Wolftrap to name a few including The Cincinnati Pops where he recently made his directorial debut with the US Premiere of the New Symphonic Version of Ragtime: The Musical. Alton also co-produced his best-selling CD, Disney My Way!, full of re-imagined Disney on Broadway classics and he has appeared on the big screen opposite Oscar winners Nicole Kidman and Marcia Gay Harden and Oscar nominee Sam Elliott. He was also featured in The Pulitzer Prize winning and Emmy Award Winning RENT LIVE which was performed on FOX television. Alton’s resume includes Guest Star roles on the hit TV series Law And Order, The Blacklist, The Good Fight, Law And Order-S.V.U., Madam Secretary, Elementary, Mind Hunter, Code Black, FBI and a recurring role on Bull as Judge Tahani. He is featured in the latest season of Dexter and has featured roles in Let The Right One In for Showtime and Dear Edward for Apple TV. He can presently be seen in the long-awaited 2023 summer blockbuster Indiana Jones 5. Alton has written for several major magazines including a cover story about his detailed experience with racial profiling for The Nation Magazine titled Ragtime My Time that has since appeared in publications all over the world and in dozens of college textbooks where the article is studied for its content and structure. STEPHEN FLAHERTY (BM Composition, ’82) 

Stephen Flaherty is a composer for theater, film and the concert hall. With longtime collaborator Lynn Ahrens, he won Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards for the Broadway musical Ragtime and was nominated for two Academy Awards and two Golden Globes for the animated feature film Anastasia, which they also adapted for Broadway. Additional Broadway credits include Once On This Island (Tony Award, Best Revival), Seussical, Rocky, My Favorite Year, Chita Rivera: The Dancer’s Life (original songs) and Neil Simon’s Proposals (incidental music.) Off-Broadway and regional credits include A Man Of No Importance, The Glorious Ones and Dessa Rose (all three at Lincoln Center Theatre); Lucky Stiff (Playwrights Horizons), Little Dancer (Kennedy Center and Seattle 5th Avenue), In Your Arms (Old Globe) and Loving Repeating: A Musical Of Gertrude Stein (About Face.) JIM SEMMELMAN (BFA Musical Theatre, ’76)  

Jim Semmelman (Conceived by and Producer) is a director, producer, choreographer, writer, lyricist, and stage manager with more than 30 years experience in theater, television and film. He has served as director/choreographer for productions including the national tour of SRO Standing Room Only, as well as regional productions of Grease, Jesus Christ Superstar, Working, Side by Side by Sondheim, his original children’s Christmas musical, Mooseltoe, and many more. Jim has been stage manager/ production stage manager for live theater productions on Broadway (Hello Dolly with Carol Channing, An Evening with Jerry Herman, Barrymore, Meet Me in St. Louis and Oh Kay! with Brian Stokes Mitchell); for National Tours (Hello Dolly, An Evening with Jerry Herman, Barrymore, Dancing at Lughnasa, Nunsense II); and Off-Broadway (Vagina Monologues and Chicago at City Center), among others. In addition, he has worked on numerous regional theater productions including at paper Mill Playhouse, Duke University, Court Theater in Chicago, and more. Jim served as stage manager for 13 years at the TODAY Show at NBC where he also stage managed Conan O’Brien, the Christmas Tree Lighting at Rockefeller Center, Nightly News with Brian Williams and the daytime soap opera, Another World. He has also been stage manager for ABC’s Rachel Ray Show, The Katie Couric Show, The View and recently Nick Cannon, and on productions for CBS, VH1, and the feature film “The Sisters”. Jim lives in Garrison with his husband, Ray Disco.

David Goldsmith (Writer/ Curator/ Interviews/ Parody Lyrics) is a playwright, bookwriter, lyricist, composer and “script doctor.” He is currently represented at the National Theatre of Israel in Tel Aviv with book & lyrics for Masada 1942 (Shuki Levy, music, Moshe Kepten, dir). BROADWAY: Motown The Musical (“script consultant,” book & lyrics), also London’s West End (Shaftesbury Theatre), two US National tours, and a UK tour. WEST END: book & lyrics for Imagine This (New London Theatre and Theatre Royal Plymouth, a filmed production of which aired on PBS and is part of the ShopPBS catalogue, as well as a 2017 revival at the Union Theatre off-West End.) JEFFREY SAVER (BM Piano, ’79)

Jeffrey Saver (Music Direction/Additional Orchestrations/ Arrangements) composed the musicals Dodsworth (starring Hal Linden & Dee Hoty) and Time After Time with collaborator Stephen Cole. Composed music for the documentary film "In My Hands" (directed/produced by Ann Reinking). He has written and arranged special material for Chita Rivera, Christine Baranski, Bebe Neuwirth and many others. Broadway (partial): Allegiance, (starring Lea Salonga and George Takei), End Of The Rainbow (B’way and LA productions), Sister Act, Chicago, Kiss Of The Spider Woman, Into The Woods, Sunday in the Park with George, The Secret Garden, The Rink, and A Chorus Line. Additionally, he taught at Point Park University as a music director and teaching artist-in-residence. Honored to be a founding member of NewArts (formerly the 12/14 Foundation) in Newtown, CT where he music directed From Broadway With Love; A Benefit Concert For Sandy Hook (broadcast on PBS), and many of their productions. Participated in several productions for Encores at City Center. Has also music directed productions at several universities around the country. Just before the theatres shuttered (due to Covid-19), he music directed a concert at the York Theatre of Sheldon Harnick’s work (featuring Sheldon Harnick, Rebecca Luker, Liz Callaway, and Karen Ziemba). He understudied Alan Cumming and played the Emcee 7 times on Broadway. National Tours: Cabaret, Mary Poppins (Neleus).
