CCM hosts guest lecture on June Carter's impact on country music

Each semester, CCM's Thinking About Music Series welcomes distinguished experts for musical discussions and lectures that are open to the general public and free to attend. The series continues at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, April 5 with a presentation by Stephanie Vander Wel, Associate Professor in the Department of Music and Global Gender and Sexuality Studies at the University at Buffalo. The title of Vander Wel's talk is "Gendered Acts in Comedy: June Carter’s Vocal and Kinetic Performance in Country Music." The lecture will be presented in the CCM Baur Room.

CCM’s streaming concert series continues on Feb. 12

The second episode of CCMONSTAGE Online is now available for on demand viewing. Originally broadcast on Friday, Feb. 12, this 30-minute-long virtual concert features CCM string quartet-in-residence the Ariel Quartet collaborating with master’s degree students Cristian Diaz and Denielle Wilson, who are also both second-year participants in CCM’s innovative Diversity Fellowship initiative with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. WVXU to re-broadcast CCM Radio Theatre plays on Tuesday, Dec. 27

Cincinnati Public Radio and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) have named UC alumnus Cedric Rose winner of the inaugural CCM Radio Theatre playwright competition. The top three winners will receive a cash prize for their work and have their play produced by CCM for broadcast on 91.7 WVXU-FM in spring 2022.

CCM's Graduate Student Association wins GSA of the year award

Earlier this month, the University of Cincinnati’s Graduate Student Government recognized the College-Conservatory of Music’s Graduate Student Association (GSA) with its GSA of the Year award. This award recognizes the outstanding contributions that the group has made to the quality of graduate student life within the CCM and UC communities. This year’s GSA consists of Maria Seffrin, president; Caitlan Truelove, vice president; Muning Wang, secretary; and Matt Coffey, treasurer. The Graduate Student Government also recognized Truelove with the Graduate Student Award for Exemplary Scholarship.

Cincinnati Opera and CCM announce next Opera Fusion: New Works workshop 'ROBESON Opera'

Cincinnati Opera and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) are pleased to announce that their groundbreaking joint program, Opera Fusion: New Works, will host its next workshop for a new opera-in-progress this May. The featured opera currently has the working title of ROBESON Opera and includes music by Scott Davenport Richards and a libretto by Richards and David Cote. CCM Professor Robin Guarino will serve as dramaturg and stage director. ROBESON Opera will receive a 10-day workshop in Cincinnati from May 4 to 14, 2022, and the workshop will culminate in a public performance on Saturday, May 14, 2022, at Music Hall’s Wilks Studio.

CCM celebrates the legacy of trailblazing trombonist Betty Glover in a tribute concert at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 12, at St. Mary's Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption in Covington, Kentucky. Featuring the CCM Brass Choir, the performance features student and faculty artists, guest artists from the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, alumni and more.

Cincinnati Magazine: What colleges learned from the pandemic

CCM Musical Theatre has a tradition of welcoming their first-year students with a showcase. However, for the class of 2024, the pandemic had other plans. Determined to make this performance happen, faculty and students adapted to create a virtual performance entitled, “Wake Up,” in which newcomers were featured monologues and performances shot in various locations across Cincinnati.
