Cincinnati Opera and CCM announce details of next Opera Fusion: New Works workshop

Cincinnati Opera and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) have announced the next workshop in their groundbreaking joint program, Opera Fusion: New Works. In collaboration with the Metropolitan Opera, the Cincinnati partners will host a workshop in November 2023 for the new opera Lincoln in the Bardo, with music by Missy Mazzoli and libretto by Royce Vavrek, based on the celebrated novel by George Saunders. Commissioned by the Metropolitan Opera and a co-production of the Metropolitan Opera and Los Angeles Opera, Lincoln in the Bardo is slated to receive its world premiere in 2026.

CCM expands global network with more opportunites for faculty and students

UC’s College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) is elevating its international reputation by creating and expanding opportunities for faculty and students to work and study abroad. “We want our students and faculty to be part of a global network of alumni and artists — to experience other cultures, other languages and other ways of looking at and creating art,” says CCM Dean Stanley E. Romanstein. “CCM is cultivating these opportunities so we can provide students with more hands-on learning experiences that prepare them to take the next steps in their lives and careers.”

CCM alums lead new Off-Broadway musical 'Walking with Bubbles'

Walking with Bubbles, a one-woman musical opening March 31 at the AMT Theater in New York, is the culmination of years of work by talented artists. There’s something special about this production, though: it’s written, directed, designed by and starring UC College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) alumni and faculty!

CCM and Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra report Diversity Fellowship program successes

The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra (CSO) and the UC College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) are proud to announce recent successes of their CSO/CCM Diversity Fellowship program. Established in 2015 and launched with a grant from The Mellon Foundation, the nationally-recognized program amplifies and supports extraordinary young string players from populations historically underrepresented in American orchestras through a specialized, two-year graduate degree-level education, professional development and mainstage performance opportunities with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. Four CSO/CCM Diversity Fellows have obtained full-time positions with major American orchestras for the 2022-23 season; additional Diversity Fellows successes include careers in music education, social change and orchestral administration.

CCM Piano students form interdisciplinary art collective

May 28, 2021

Two of CCM’s doctoral piano students recently started Music X Habitat X Art, an organization that combines classical music with immersive visual art, both in physical installations and in the digital space. Yaoyue Huang and Scott Sherman, alongside Chinese visual artist Amelie Jiang, just enjoyed their organization’s first solo exhibition.
