The prestigious Columbus International Film and Video Festival will soon recognize two university projects: an architectural CD-ROM and a mini-documentary that engagingly examines the lives, loyalty and work of a family running a poultry slaughterhouse. While Cincinnati s richest census tract has upended expectations, the city's poorest census tract has changed little in the past four decades. That s according to a report card on Cincinnati neighborhoods being released by two local researchers at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 4, at City Hall.

University of Cincinnati design students are topping off a year in the classroom with real-world, hands-on work to benefit the local community. This summer, they ve reconstructed portions of a storefront location in Over-the-Rhine to help local nuns who need a new place to run a non-profit pizzeria that specializes in job training for hard-to-employ residents of the community.

Fashion students will show off the thrill of thrift during the "RetroFittings" fashion show set for 6 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 14, at the 20th Century Theatre in Oakley. That's when students from UC's College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning will model ensembles created from St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store bargains.
