New exhibition features 25 years of photography by UC Blue Ash students

Twenty-Five Years of Student Photography from Media Communications & Technology is the title of a new exhibition at the University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College Art Gallery. The exhibition, which is free and open to the public, will be on display through Friday, Oct. 27.
Regular hours for the UC Blue Ash Art Gallery are Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Wednesdays from 1:30-5 p.m. It is located on the UC Blue Ash campus at 4131 Cooper Road in Blue Ash.
The exhibition features 235 photographic prints and 22 photographic book projects by 178 photographers, plus six collaborative works with contributions from more than 45 photographers. Four digital “slide shows” on video monitors in the gallery present an additional 1,600 photographs by 230 photographers representing a variety of photo course assignments assembled for the department’s 10th Anniversary exhibition in 2007.
This is the first in a series of events celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the Media Communications & Technology Department at UC Blue Ash. Subsequent events will include on-campus and online screenings of student and alumni video work, a series of animation projects, a CD release of audio recordings and an exhibition of faculty creative work, among other planned events.
The exhibition was assembled and prepared for presentation by H. Michael Sanders, professor and chair of the Media Communications & Technology Department, from the massive image archive he has maintained since founding the Applied Media Communications program in 1997 (formerly Electronic Media Technology).

Sanders was assisted in curating this extensive exhibition by Roo Hedrick, program coordinator and production manager, and Matt Bennett, associate professor of media communications. The presentation of work has been standardized, with older film-based work scanned and presented in exactly the same manner as contemporary digital work.
“This approach provided a cohesive and unified look to the exhibition, making it possible to integrate work made through diverse photographic processes,” said Sanders. “The collection represents work produced over a lengthy time period that witnessed the transition from film-based photography to modern digital imagery.”
“This exhibit, showcasing 25 years of high-quality student photography, stands as a testament to the unwavering commitment to exceptional education within our media production programs,” added Hedrick.

UC Blue Ash student Holly Lawson said she is honored to have her work included.
“I’m deeply humbled to be a part of this exhibit as the talent portrayed is staggering," Lawson said. "It’s motivating and inspires me to continue growing as a photographer. In conjunction with the exhibition, the Media Communications & Technology Department is providing a series of four recorded gallery talks and panel discussions on UCTV from a previous department photo exhibition in 2014 on the Tao of Photography. This series of recordings is available from UCTV Online (Video on Demand), on the UCBA Art Gallery and includes:

Azar Nafisi, who was a professor in her homeland of Iran for 15 years, will offer her stories of Iranian women, Islamic radicals and the chaotic times of the Islamic Revolution in a lecture on April 4 at 7 p.m. in the Raymond Walters College theater.
