The COVID-19 pandemic resulted in a forced pause to the usual international travel experiences at the University of Cincinnati. In response to a call for innovative ideas for virtual global experiences, Cedrick Kwuimy, assistant professor-educator in UC’s Department of Engineering Education, devised a program to give first-year engineering students some of the same growth opportunities they would have with a study abroad or work abroad program. UC students collaborated virtually with students at University of Cape Coast in Ghana and at Bahir Dar University in Ethiopia

Autumn Maher, a University of Cincinnati civil engineering student who will graduate in 2022, was one of just a few students nationwide selected for the 2021 Student Leadership Award from the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), for her leadership and dedication to the UC student chapter. Maher is president of UC's student chapter and has interned at Marathon Petroleum.

The UC team comprised students from construction management, architectural engineering and civil engineering majors within the College of Engineering and Applied Science and real estate and marketing majors in the Carl H. Lindner College of Business as they played the role of a regional home building firm. Fischer Homes advised the team.
