UC professor says Cincinnati-based Kroger will be ready for the competition

Supermarket chain Publix is coming to northern Kentucky, moving into the home region of Cincinnati-based Kroger, WLWT reported.

Publix announced it will open a store in Richwood, Kentucky, in 2025. The chain has been moving up through Kentucky, said Chuck Sox, PhD, associate dean, graduate programs and partnerships, and a professor of operations and business analytics in the University of Cincinnati's Carl H. Lindner College of Business.

While there will be extra competition in the region for Kroger with the arrival of Publix, Sox said, the companies already are accustomed to competing against each other in other markets.

“They’ve gone head to head in other markets before. And, you know, so it's not a surprise to them,” he said. “They're going to know how they need to respond here in this market.”
