Next Innovation Scholars tune in to 'CREATE' social innovation challenge

Amid the global pandemic's after-effects, educators, students and institutions were compelled to reexamine the fundamental principles of teaching and learning, prompting a thorough reassessment of available resources and forging new and innovative collaborations. At the intersection of this shift, the University of Cincinnati NEXT Innovation Scholars program orchestrated an immersive social challenge for UC students at the 1819 Innovation Hub.

Aerospace engineering student encourages women in her field

Rachel Wiggins, aerospace engineering doctoral student at the University of Cincinnati, is testing a rotating detonation engine that is smaller and more efficient than existing combustion engine technology. Outside of her research work, Wiggins launched Women in Flight, a student organization that fosters a supportive environment for women in aerospace and aviation fields. She was named Graduate Student Engineer of the Month by the College of Engineering and Applied Science.

International co-op and studies enrich computer science student’s experience

University of Cincinnati student Tosha Bapat came into the College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS) unsure of which major to pursue. Starting in the Freshman Engineering Program and exploring a variety of courses helped Bapat discover her passion: computer science. As she prepares to graduate, Bapat shares her story through cooperative education (co-op) jobs in both industry and research, a year spent studying and working abroad in Hong Kong and Japan, and her commitment to making a difference through student groups.

UC co-op medalist thrives in NASA internships

University of Cincinnati student Anna Lanzillotta dreamed of working as an engineer in the aerospace and aviation industry. Now, Lanzillotta is graduating with an electrical engineering degree, experience working at NASA for four cooperative education jobs, and a full-time job in the aerospace industry. Lanzillotta was selected for the 2022 Herman Schneider Medal, which is awarded annually to a graduating senior in UC’s College of Engineering and Applied Science for distinction as an exemplary co-op student who has taken full advantage of the unique opportunities of cooperative education.
