More than three decades of devotion to their subjects, students and the university have coincided with two of the most recognizable figures in the College of Engineering earning top university faculty awards this year.

On Saturday, April 23, more than 150 Cincinnati-area parents, teachers, middle- and high-school students will participate in the 11th annual Engineer for a Day program. Engineer for A Day is hosted by the Cincinnati Alumni Extension and University of Cincinnati chapters of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) and sponsored by Toyota Motor Manufacturing North America and UC s College of Engineering. From 8:30 a.m. 3:30 p.m., students from across the tri-state area will spend their Saturday learning the many functions of engineers.

DARPA Grand Challenge Take 2 takes place Oct. 8, 2005, in the southwestern United States. University of Cincinnati engineering professor Ernie Hall s robotics team hopes to be one of the finalists competing for $2 million in award money. Before that stage, however, UC has to pass a series of five tests, including technical reports and site visits.

Signups are underway for UC s third-annual Relay for Life fund-raiser for the American Cancer Society April 29-30. UC electrical engineering major John Reynolds will be one of the walkers covering McMicken Commons. It will be the second year he ll be walking in memory of his friend, Andy Holmes.
