Four University of Cincinnati mechanical engineering students placed second at the 2013 American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) Student Design Competition in the Integrated Sustainable Building category. When UC environmental engineering graduate student Jacob Shidler traveled to the Comoros Islands last year to collect roof-harvested rainwater for his research, he also returned with an idea for an innovative mobile app to advance and increase data collection. He and a partner have now launched "Liquid Field Notes" software app for use by everyone from citizen scientists to academic researchers.
