UC College-Conservatory of Music alum Alex Gartner (BM Music Education ‘12) recently finished a commission in partnership with a coalition of memory care associations, including TimeSlips Creative Storytelling (Milwaukee, WI) and Dementia Inclusive Durham (Durham, NC). The piece “Toward Something New” will be premiered by the Durham Children’s Choir in late May.

The University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music's Orchestral and Choral programs unite to present J.S. Bach’s St. Mathew Passion at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2023 in Corbett Auditorium. Featuring the work of students, faculty and guest artists, the staged performance retells the story of the events leading up to the trial of Jesus, his crucifixion and burial.

The Recording Academy and GRAMMY Museum recently announced their semifinalists for the 2022 Music Educator Award, one of whom is CCM alumnus Brandon Elliot (MM Choral Conducting, ‘14). Elliot was also awarded the Chorus America Louis Botto Award for Innovative Action and Entrepreneurial Zeal. Elliot is a tenure-track professor and the director of choral and vocal activities at southern California’s Moorpark College.

Molly Getsinger is a rising star in the conducting world, and graduates this spring with a Doctor of Musical Arts in Choral Conducting from UC’s College-Conservatory of Music. A musician at an early age, her earliest musical memories are of taking piano lessons and singing in the school choir. When she entered high school, she had the opportunity to conduct her marching band as the drum major, and her passion for conducting was born.

The Cincinnati May Festival has announced the appointment of Sergey Tkachenko, a first-year DMA student in CCM’s renowned choral conducting program, as its Conducting Fellow for the 2023-24 season. Tkachenko, who will serve as the assistant conductor for the May Festival Chorus this year, recently completed his master’s degree at the Indiana University (IU) Jacobs School of Music.

The Cincinnati May Festival has announced the appointment of UC College-Conservatory of Music student Christin Sears as the May Festival Choral Conducting Fellow for the 2022-23 performance season, which is also the May Festival’s 150th anniversary season. A first-year student in CCM's doctoral program in choral conducting, Sears previously served as a school choral director in the Houston area for 12 years. She is an active clinician, soloist and singer in professional ensembles who served as the soprano section leader for CANTARE Houston.

In 2019, UC College-Conservatory of Music student and now alumna Caroline Sackleh (DMA Bassoon Performance, ’20) created a music collective that focuses on highlighting the skills of women musicians and performing the works of living composers. With that vision in mind, New Downbeat was born. The ensemble now boasts over 20 performers and six affiliated composers, most of whom are CCM students or alumni.
