CSO and CCM announce 2021-23 class of Diversity Fellows

The University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) and the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra (CSO) have selected five outstanding musicians for their next class of CSO/CCM Diversity Fellows. Born out of a mutual desire to help American orchestras become more inclusive and better represent the communities they serve, the performance fellowship program was launched in 2015 and continues with a generous grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

The American Prize Competition honors CCM faculty member Amy Johnson as a Distinguished Vocal Artist

CCM Associate Professor of Voice Amy Johnson was named a Distinguished Vocal Artist of the American Prize as part of that competition's annual Independence Day Honors program. The award was presented to both Johnson and mezzo-soprano Adriana Zabala by the American Prize National Nonprofit Competitions in the Performing Arts in memory of the great Wagnerian baritone, Friedrich Schorr, and his wife, Virginia. An internationally-known soprano and vocal pedagogue, Johnson is recognized as one of America's finest singing actresses. She currently serves as co-director of CCM's Undergraduate Opera Workshop.

CCM Musical Theatre shares Freshman Showcase

The Freshman Musical Theatre class at UC’s College-Conservatory of Music marked the conclusion of their first year in the BFA program with a virtual showcase titled “Wake Up.” The performance features a variety of student-curated monologues and performances that were shot on location at Cincinnati theatres, parks and museums.

Watch CCM's Musical Theatre Class of 2024 perform 'No One Is Alone'

In this excerpt from the CCM Musical Theatre Class of 2024 Freshman Showcase, students Amanda Bishop, Andrew Burke, Gracie Parker and Stanislav Przedlacki perform Stephen Sondheim's "No One Is Alone" from the musical Into the Woods at Memorial Hall OTR. Segments of CCM's Musical Theatre Freshman Showcase were recorded at iconic locations throughout the city in collaboration with Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, Cincinnati Shakespeare Company, Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati, Imperial Theatre Mohawk Arts Center, Memorial Hall, the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center and Washington Park. The full showcase will be available for on-demand viewing beginning Wednesday, June 30, 2021.

CCM doctoral student selected for the Cleveland Institute of Music's Future of Music Faculty Fellowship

Current CCM doctoral student Kabelo Chirwa has been selected for the inaugural cohort of the Cleveland Institute of Music’s Future of Music Faculty Fellowship Program. Designed as a critical step forward in creating a culture of diversity within the music academy and beyond, the program is board by a grant awarded in the inaugural cycle of the Sphinx Venture Fund. The career development initiative will engage 35 Black and Latinx music professionals who are pursuing or considering academic careers, preparing them with the skills, insights and networks to flourish professionally and influence generations of musicians.

Accomplished costume designer Elizabeth Payne joins CCM's faculty

UC College-Conservatory of Music Dean Stanley E. Romanstein has announced the addition of Elizabeth Payne to the college’s roster of distinguished performing and media arts faculty members. A costume designer with more than 20 years of experience designing for theatre, dance and television, Payne’s appointment as Assistant Professor of Costume Design begins on Aug. 15, 2021.
