The News Record: Students gain real-world experience at 'the global birthplace of co-op'

The News Record, the university’s student-run newspaper, profiled UC's co-op program and spoke with two students and their experience with experience-based learning: Sarah Nunley, a third-year in DAAP and Kyle Cannon, a second-year student in CECH. Nunley is enjoying a co-op at Court Atkins Group, an architecture and design company in South Carolina and Cannon is working for 8451, a data analysis company in Cincinnati patented by Kroger in the IT industry.

UC student finds purpose helping community through service learning

Last summer, Molly McKee spent her days fulfilling her goal to work in community service. She combined her drive towards bettering the community with her co-op requirement in UC’s College of Arts and Sciences through a co-op position with the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. A fourth-year student, McKee is double majoring in political science and International affairs, with a minor in Spanish. Having discovered the service learning co-op option through UC’s honors program, McKee landed a position as an outreach center programs associate position at St. Vincent de Paul. For her, the experience was transformational.

Growth at UC brings largest first-year class ever

The University of Cincinnati recorded its largest enrollment ever this week as the official head count landed at 47,914 students for the fall semester. The figure represents nearly a 2.6% increase over last year’s enrollment or an additional 1,204 students.

UC Family Weekend draws more than 5,000 participants to the Uptown campus

UC Family Weekend was designed to introduce families to university life. The three-day event attracted more than 5,000 people to the Uptown campus Sept. 16-18. A pep rally, a movie night in Nippert Stadium, an evening barbecue along with host of activities on Schneider Quad offered something for UC students, their siblings, parents and other supporters.

CCM teaches "disguise" tech to the next generation of lighting and video designers

UC College-Conservatory of Music Professor Sharon Huizinga and Vickie Claiborne, Training Manager for disguise Americas, have been working closely together over the past few years to help video and lighting students learn disguise — a platform that combines leading production software with powerful media server hardware, to empower artists and production houses to tell stories that inspire audiences. This collaboration was recently spotlighted on disguise's website.

National rankings highlight UC’s co-op program, innovation

The University of Cincinnati’s co-op program stands at No. 4 in the U.S. News & World Report’s latest rankings, continuing its historical placement among the top five co-op programs in the country — and No. 1 for co-op among public universities. The latest 2023 issue of the magazine’s influential “Best Colleges” guide ranks UC in the top tier, including among the “most innovative among national universities,” (No. 68) — UC’s first-ever ranking in that category.
