CCM students create costumes for May We Help's Halloween Festival

The charity organization connected CCM’s students to children with disabilities who need specialized costumes built to fit their power chairs.

CCM Starling Prep violinist named semi-finalist in Sphinx Competition

The UC College-Conservatory of Music is proud to announce that Anthony Dorsey, a longtime student in the CCM Starling Preparatory String Project, was recently named a semi-finalist in the annual Sphinx Competition. Dorsey is joined at the semi-finals by Sonya Moomaw, a former student of CCM Prep’s Junior Strings Program. Based in Detroit, the Sphinx Organization is a nationwide social justice organization which fosters the talents of Black and Latinx string players and promotes diversity in classical music.

CCM hosts guest lecture on June Carter's impact on country music

Each semester, CCM's Thinking About Music Series welcomes distinguished experts for musical discussions and lectures that are open to the general public and free to attend. The series continues at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, April 5 with a presentation by Stephanie Vander Wel, Associate Professor in the Department of Music and Global Gender and Sexuality Studies at the University at Buffalo. The title of Vander Wel's talk is "Gendered Acts in Comedy: June Carter’s Vocal and Kinetic Performance in Country Music." The lecture will be presented in the CCM Baur Room.

CCM student oboist wins NFMC's prestigious Carolyn Nelson Double Reed Award

May 14, 2020

UC College-Conservatory of Music graduate student Leo De La Cruz won the CCM Wind Studies concerto competition and he achieved an honorable mention at the 2020 Yamaha Young Performing Artists Competition. Most recently, he won the National Federation of Music Clubs’ Carolyn Nelson Double Reed Award, which includes a $1,250 cash prize.
