WCPO: UC hosts off-campus housing fair
Students had the opportunity to learn about living options near UC's Uptown campus
Current students had a chance to speak with housing agents representing off-campus properties near the University of Cincinnati's Uptown campus as a part of a half-day housing fair, Wednesday, Jan. 10, in the Tangeman University Center atrium.
Housing agents for more than a dozen rental development companies with properties near the university campus got a chance to showcase what their properties will offer students returning in the Summer/Fall 2024.
Private developers active in the community around UC are bringing approximately 2,000 new student beds to the market as the fall semester approaches.
The housing fair was hosted by UC Student Government with support from the Center for Student Involvement in the UC Division of Student Affairs, UC Housing and the UC Office of Enrollment Management.
WCPO, Channel 9, aired a segment about the event.
For first-year students making the important transition from high school to college, the residential experience fosters academic success by creating relationships and a sense of belonging as well as easy access to resources. To help accommodate this essential experience, the university continues to maximize availability of traditional, suite and apartment living most proximate to the Uptown Campus for the incoming class.
Space for returning/upperclass students is also a priority. Up to 1,500 spaces will be set aside for returning students who want to continue living on campus at UC. This is similar to prior years and consistent with practices at other universities. The deadline for students to inform UC Housing of their intent to renew a housing contract is Feb. 5.
Renovations to Siddall Hall will be complete for the fall adding about 500 beds for on-campus housing. The growth in the private housing market will offer students greater alternatives for housing.
“We are seeing so much investment in the private community in housing in this region,” says Jack Miner, vice provost for enrollment management at UC.
Student government leaders, like Trenton Stern, a senior in pre-medicine, say the housing fair was designed to help students know what off-campus housing options are available.
