UC research examines workplace stress in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic

A new study from the University of Cincinnati examined the impact of workplace stress and provided insights for organizations to explore ways to reduce workplace stress for a better and healthier working environment. The study had two parts: a survey in which respondents described their experiences of workplace stress during the COVID-19 pandemic and a quantitative study using saliva cortisol as a biomarker of stress along with a stress diary to find out where and when workplace stress commonly occurred.

UC, Children’s to make local WIC enrollment easier for the eligible

Too many women and children in the Cincinnati region who qualify for federal nutrition benefits are missing out on receiving them — in many cases because of the application process and language barriers. Now a team led by Cincinnati Children’s pediatrician Chidiogo Anyigbo, MD, MPH, and University of Cincinnati pediatric psychologist Cathleen Stough, PhD, has funding to do something about that.

UC research shows benefits from Jewish tradition

Research from the University of Cincinnati shows people who wear tefillin, leather bands used in a Jewish religious practice which involves the tight wrapping of an arm with the bands, may receive cardiovascular health benefits. The study suggests those benefits are the result of ischemic or reduced blood flow preconditioning which produces protection from the damage caused by heart attacks.

Advances made in UC research extending lives

Treatments for pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) — a type of high blood pressure that affects arteries in the lungs and in the heart — have improved significantly over the past 15 to 20 years and researchers at the University of Cincinnati have been at the forefront of those improvements. The result of a series of studies UC researchers were part of have allowed new medications to come to market for patients with PAH.

UC research could change vaccine practices

New research out of the University of Cincinnati shows that a course of a hepatitis B vaccine provides complete protection for people with HIV. The UC research shows that a three-dose course of the hepatitis B vaccine HEPLISAV-B provides complete protection for people living with HIV who have never been vaccinated against or exposed to the hepatitis B virus (HBV).

UC research examines barriers to treatment of COVID-19 in local Latinx families

August 18, 2022

New research from the University of Cincinnati,examines the barriers as well as those that are helpful in the prevention and treatment of COVID-19 in Latinx families in Cincinnati. Researchers identified primary barriers that include insecurities in food, jobs and housing and immigration. Key facilitators included having trusted messengers of health-related information.
