UC College of Nursing will host its 8th Annual Culture Festival on March 5 and 6

Celebrating the past, persisting through the present, navigating the future

Celebrate the many cultural traditions on campus during UC College of Nursing's annual Culture Fest on Tuesday, March 5, and a Lunch-n-Learn on Wednesday, March 6, in Procter Hall.

This event will offer an opportunity for students, faculty, staff and community members to network across UC's Academic Health Center and with local partners and bring awareness to campus resources that support diversity, equity and inclusion in education and health.

The event will kick off on March 5 with keynote speaker Rachel Baker, PhD, MSW, RN, discussing the state of diversity, equity and inclusion in legislation in Ohio. Afterward, attendees will have an opportunity to experience different cultures with a free lunch and interact with different resources offered by the college and UC.

On March 6, a Lunch-n-Learn on self-care and the power of habit to build resilience will be presented by Ashley SanDiego, MS, followed by the closing of Culture Fest by CEIE.

Keynote Speaker

Rep. Rachel Baker, PhD, MSW, RN

Rachel Baker, PhD, MSW, RN, is a State Representative currently serving her first term in the Ohio House of Representatives representing House District 27, which includes the eastern side of Hamilton County and portions of Cincinnati. Rep. Baker holds a bachelor’s in nursing from the University of Cincinnati, a master’s in social work from the University of Michigan, and a Ph.D. from the University of Cincinnati College of Nursing.

Representative Baker is a nurse researcher providing leadership and strategic planning related to a healthcare system’s nursing evidence-based practice and research activities. She provides mentorship to direct care nurses in translating evidence to practice, in designing and conducting nursing research, and in disseminating inquiry work through national presentations and publications. Additionally, she serves as an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Clinical Nursing teaching graduate nursing students at the University of Cincinnati College of Nursing. She has authored 25 peer-reviewed journal articles and has presented locally, nationally, and internationally. She volunteers as a court-appointed special advocate providing support for children experiencing abuse and neglect.

Classes begin for increasingly diverse student body at UC
