University of Cincinnati and Rwanda build capacity in cardiology

Rwanda faces a critical shortage of medical specialists. The University of Cincinnati's UC Rwanda Initiative has partnered with the country's ministry of health, the national University of Rwanda and the country’s teaching hospitals to develop cardiology fellowships through virtual courses and bidirectional exchange. The first two fellows visited UC for eight weeks.

UC establishes 'heart bank'

The University of Cincinnati College of Medicine is opening what it calls a “heart bank” to collect tissue samples that can be used by researchers. Those samples will be stored in a biorepository to provide a potentially valuable resource to help researchers find answers to scientific questions.

Breaching the blood-brain barrier to treat tumors

Researchers at the University of Cincinnati, in collaboration with the Georgia Institute of Technology and Emory University, have found that using ultrasound combined with RNA-loaded nanoparticles could help infiltrate the blood-brain barrier and deliver targeted, more effective treatment to brain tumors, while eliminating uncomfortable side effects.
