In April 2004, Jon Hughes, photojournalist and UC professor of English and journalism, spent 18 days photographing the work of UC Family Practice physicians, nurses, residents and students as they traveled on the Amazon from village to village conducting day-long clinics. The result is Medicine in the Amazon River Headwaters, an exhibit of Hughes black and white images. The photos will be available for viewing in the UC Health Sciences Library in the Medical Sciences Building from May 1 through June 12, with a reception and gallery talk on May 15 from 2 to 4 p.m.
