With two new NIH awards, a researcher at UC s College of Allied Health Sciences hopes to learn how augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices can help patients with aphasia continue to communicate.

In a unique interdisciplinary project, students from allied health sciences, medicine, nursing and pharmacy work together each weekend to staff a health clinic in Cincinnati s West End neighborhood. While talking with patients about their health concerns, they learn about different disciplines and how to work as a health care team.

As students of all ages load up their backpacks for the school year, they may be on their way to creating bad posture habits and increasing their risk for pain. UC s Nancy Talbott, PhD, an associate professor of rehabilitation sciences in the College of Allied Health Sciences, says there s a key point at which backpacks tip from appropriate to overweight and that could lead to pain or injury for the wearer.
